The Atlanta Falcons are adding a new quarterback to their roster. According to reports, the team is signing Tua Tagovailoa to a one-year minimum deal following his release from the Miami Dolphins.

Tagovailoaโ€™s move marks a surprising shift after several seasons as Miamiโ€™s starting quarterback. The former Alabama standout developed into a productive passer during his tenure with the Dolphins, helping guide the offense while establishing himself as one of the more efficient quarterbacks in the league. Despite that production, Miami opted to move on, opening the door for Tagovailoa to find a new opportunity.

Atlanta quickly emerged as that landing spot. The Falcons will sign Tagovailoa to a one-year minimum contract, allowing the organization to bring in an experienced quarterback at a low financial cost. Meanwhile, the Dolphins will still pay the majority of his 2026 salary due to previous contract obligations.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the news on X, formerly Twitter, confirming that the deal is expected to be finalized once Tagovailoa is officially released.

โ€œNow done: The Falcons are signing Tua Tagovailoa on a one-year minimum deal, sources tell The Insiders.โ€

โ€œThe deal cannot be official until heโ€™s released on Wednesday. But Tua is headed to Atlanta.โ€

Pelissero also noted that Tagovailoa will earn $54 million this season, with nearly all of that money coming from Miami while Atlanta pays only the veteran minimum.

โ€œTua will make $54 million this season โ€” almost all of it from the Dolphins. Atlanta gets him for the minimum, providing an ideal landing spot after his release from Miami.โ€

The signing gives Atlanta an experienced quarterback option as the franchise evaluates its roster moving forward. For Tagovailoa, the move provides a fresh start and an opportunity to reestablish himself in a new system. Once the deal becomes official, attention will shift to how the Falcons plan to utilize the veteran signal-caller in their quarterback room.
