Spurs land Tobias Harris on two-year deal after NBA Finals run

The San Antonio Spurs are adding another veteran forward to their Western Conference contender.

Free agent Tobias Harris has agreed to a two-year, $31 million contract with the Spurs, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania on X, formerly Twitter.

Harris leaves the Detroit Pistons after helping the franchise complete a major turnaround over the past two seasons. The 33-year-old forward averaged 13.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game during his second stint in Detroit, giving one of the NBA’s youngest teams a steady veteran presence, scoring, and frontcourt spacing.

Detroit climbed from one of the league’s worst teams two years ago to a 60-win season and its first playoff advancement since 2008. Harris played an important role in that rise after signing a two-year, $52 million deal with the Pistons in 2024 following six seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Now, he joins a Spurs team coming off its first NBA Finals appearance since 2014.

San Antonio has been active in shaping its forward rotation this offseason. The Spurs reached a new three-year deal with Julian Champagnie and a one-year agreement with Harrison Barnes before adding Harris to the mix.

For the Spurs, Harris brings size, shooting, playoff experience, and a low-maintenance scoring profile around a young core led by Victor Wembanyama. His ability to stretch the floor should help San Antonio maintain spacing while adding another proven veteran to a roster built to compete immediately.

For Harris, the move offers a chance to join a rising contender after helping stabilize Detroit’s rebuild.

The Spurs already proved they could reach the league’s biggest stage. Adding Harris gives them another reliable piece as they look to finish the job next season.

Anthony Edwards delivered when the Minnesota Timberwolves needed him most.

With Minnesota facing another late deficit in Game 4, Edwards took over in the fourth quarter and helped rally the Timberwolves to a crucial win over the San Antonio Spurs, evening the playoff series at two games apiece.

Edwards ignites fourth-quarter comeback

The Timberwolves trailed by eight points early in the fourth quarter after a three-pointer from De’Aaron Fox extended San Antonio’s lead.

Edwards responded quickly.

He buried a deep 27-footer to pull Minnesota within three before later knocking down a catch-and-shoot three-pointer with 5:12 remaining to give the Timberwolves their first lead since the middle of the third quarter.

The energy inside Target Center shifted instantly as Edwards turned toward the crowd demanding more noise during the comeback push.

Timberwolves’ big men capitalize late

Once Minnesota regained momentum, the frontcourt took control.

Rudy Gobert converted a three-point play off a slick feed from Naz Reid before throwing down a late dunk following a pass from Julius Randle to extend the lead to six.

Gobert finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Reid delivered a critical putback basket in the final minute to help secure the win.

Ayo Dosunmu later knocked down two clutch free throws with under 10 seconds remaining to officially put the game away.

Spurs battle after Wembanyama ejection

San Antonio remained competitive despite losing Victor Wembanyama to a flagrant foul 2 ejection earlier in the game.

The Spurs leaned heavily on their backcourt afterward, with Dylan Harper and Fox each scoring 24 points while Stephon Castle added 20.

The trio kept San Antonio afloat with a relentless midrange attack and aggressive shot creation throughout the second half.

Series shifts back to San Antonio

Minnesota’s victory prevents the Spurs from taking full control of the series and sends the matchup back to San Antonio tied 2-2.

Now, attention turns toward Wembanyama’s status for Game 5 after the automatic ejection. The league is expected to review the play before Tuesday night’s matchup.

For the Timberwolves, though, Game 4 belonged to Edwards.

With the season’s pressure mounting, the Minnesota star delivered the type of fourth-quarter takeover the franchise desperately needed.
