Green Bay Packers history & legends

The Green Bay Packers were founded in 1919 by Curly Lambeau and joined the NFL in 1921. They are the only community-owned team in major American pro sports, and they still play in one of the league’s smallest markets at historic Lambeau Field. The Packers compete in the NFC North.

Championship history

Green Bay has won 13 NFL championships, the most in league history. Vince Lombardi’s Packers dominated the 1960s and won the first two Super Bowls, which is why the Super Bowl trophy now bears his name. Brett Favre led the Packers to victory in Super Bowl XXXI, and Aaron Rodgers added a fourth Super Bowl title in Super Bowl XLV.

The Chicago Bears rivalry is the most-played series in NFL history, dating back to 1921. The Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions round out the NFC North, and the Packers’ playoff history with the Dallas Cowboys, including the 1967 “Ice Bowl,” is among the most famous in football.
