The Washington Commanders are bringing back a familiar face on their offensive line.

Veteran lineman Trenton Scott has agreed to re-sign with Washington for another season, according to a report from the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. (Source)

Scott has spent the past two seasons with Washington after joining the team on a two-year deal in 2023. He later signed a one-year extension last offseason and has appeared in 35 games during his time with the Commanders while making six starts.

Veteran depth returns to Washington

Scott’s role in Washington has largely centered on providing depth along the offensive line.

The veteran played a key role during the 2024 postseason when he stepped in for injured lineman Sam Cosmi, seeing significant snaps in a crucial stretch of games.

However, his opportunities declined during the 2025 season.

After the Commanders added star left tackle Laremy Tunsil and rookie right tackle Josh Conerly Jr., Scott slid further down the depth chart. He ultimately appeared in eight games and logged 82 offensive snaps.

Journey around the NFL

Scott entered the league as an undrafted player and spent the early portion of his career moving between multiple organizations.

He previously had stints with the Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers. His most significant early playing time came in 2019 when he started a career-high nine games for the Chargers.

Offensive line questions remain

While Scott returns to the roster, Washington still faces uncertainty along its offensive front heading into the 2026 season.

The Commanders recently released center Tyler Biadasz, while guard Chris Paul remains unsigned.

Tunsil, Conerly and Cosmi are expected to anchor the line moving forward, but the remaining spots could be open for competition. Scott may find himself battling for playing time with players such as Nick Allegretti as Washington continues shaping its offensive line for the upcoming season.

A young running back could soon be on the move. The Washington Commanders are reportedly shopping Brian Robinson Jr. as he enters the final year of his rookie contract, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

With Mixon’s status uncertain, Houston could look to acquire Robinson as a stopgap starter. The Texans are coming off back-to-back AFC South titles and are hoping to take the next step toward Super Bowl contention behind quarterback C.J. Stroud. A reliable lead back like Robinson would stabilize the rushing attack and provide insurance until Mixon is healthy.

Adding Robinson not only addresses a short-term need but also gives Houston another physical runner who fits well into an offense built around balance and efficiency.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Another potential landing spot could be Jacksonville, where the Jaguars appear to be reevaluating their backfield situation. SI.com’s John Shipley reported last month that 2023 third-round pick Tank Bigsby “looked like the focal point at running back” over Travis Etienne Jr. during training camp.

After opening his career with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, Etienne took a step back in 2024, rushing for just 558 yards in 15 games. The Jaguars seem prepared to shift toward Bigsby, but adding Robinson would bring experience and toughness to complement their young back.

For quarterback Trevor Lawrence and an offense looking to re-establish consistency, Robinson could provide a spark. Whether used as the lead runner or in a one-two punch with Bigsby, he would give Jacksonville much-needed flexibility and depth at a critical position.

Outlook

Robinson’s power running style and proven production make him an intriguing option for teams seeking help in the backfield. With Washington looking to reset its roster, the coming weeks could determine whether he finds a new home in Houston, Jacksonville, or elsewhere as the season approaches.

Commanders Poised to Add CB Essang Bassey with Coaching Connection

The Washington Commanders’ busy weekend continues.

Following Friday’s 48-18 preseason loss to the New England Patriots, Washington brought in 14 players for tryouts. By Sunday evening, the team had agreed to terms with veteran linebacker Duke Riley.

Now, according to Ben Standig, the Commanders are expected to sign veteran cornerback Essang Bassey.

Bassey’s addition comes despite Washington already boasting a strong cornerback group with Marshon Lattimore, Mike Sainristil, Trey Amos, Jonathan Jones, and Noah Igbinoghene. The team is also high on undrafted rookie Car’lin Vigers.

The move appears tied to Bassey’s familiarity with defensive backs coach Tommy Donatell, who worked with him during two stints with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Bassey, 27 this week, was a two-time All-ACC corner at Wake Forest before entering the NFL in 2020 with Denver as an undrafted free agent. His career has included time with the Broncos, Chargers, and Lions, often bouncing between active rosters and practice squads.

With Bobby Price in concussion protocol and fellow corner Kevon Seymour banged up, Bassey adds depth and experience ahead of the regular season. The team has yet to officially announce the signing, which will require a corresponding roster move.

Von Miller on why he signed with Commanders

Future Hall of Fame pass rusher Von Miller is entering his 15th NFL season with a new team, but a familiar mindset: championship-or-bust.

Miller officially signed with the Washington Commanders on Monday and immediately addressed why he chose the franchise, sitting down with Bryan Colbert Jr. to share his reasoning.

“Jayden Daniels is a really good quarterback,” Miller said bluntly. “I’ve played with great ones—Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, Josh Allen—and I believe Daniels can be as good as those guys one day.”

The Commanders’ rookie quarterback wasn’t the only reason for Miller’s commitment. The 36-year-old veteran also praised head coach Dan Quinn, who enters his second season at the helm in Washington.

In addition to chasing a third Super Bowl ring, Miller also has a personal milestone in mind: cracking the top 10 in all-time sacks. He currently sits 16th with 129.5 career sacks.

With a binding contract and a clear role backing up a rising defense, Miller is ready to embrace the next chapter of his legendary career in Washington. The Commanders are banking on his veteran presence to help push their defense—and locker room—closer to contender status.
