The Colorado Rockies scored a franchise-record 23 runs Sunday in a 23-9 victory over the Athletics at Las Vegas Ballpark.

Colorado played in 101-degree heat and turned the game into a historic offensive display. The Rockies hit six home runs, ended a three-game losing streak, and improved to 27-45.

Willi Castro and Hunter Goodman led the surge. Each hit two home runs, and the pair combined for 11 RBIs. Troy Johnston and TJ Rumfield also homered for Colorado.

Castro gave the Rockies early production with two home runs and repeated damage in run-scoring spots. Goodman matched him with two homers of his own.

Colorado kept pressure on the Athletics’ pitching throughout the afternoon. The Rockies put runners on base often and turned those chances into big innings.

The power spread through the lineup. Johnston and Rumfield added home runs as Colorado built one of the biggest offensive games in MLB this season.

Colorado Controls Slugfest in Las Vegas

The game produced 32 runs, 39 hits, 19 extra-base hits, and 76 total bases. Each total marked a season high entering the day.

The Rockies accounted for most of that production. They drove the ball into gaps, cleared the fences, and kept adding runs after they took control.

Colorado’s 23 runs tied for the second-most by a team that entered the day with MLB’s outright worst record since 1900.

Athletics Finish Homestand at 4-2

The Athletics allowed their most runs in a game since 1955. Las Vegas Ballpark continued to play as a hitter-friendly venue during the club’s six-game homestand.

The Athletics still finished the homestand 4-2. They won a series against the Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado as well earlier in the year.

The team usually plays home games at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento. The club plans to move to Las Vegas full-time in 2028.

A’s Nick Kurtz Becomes First Rookie with 4-Homer Game

Athletics rookie Nick Kurtz delivered a performance for the ages Friday night at Daikin Park, making Major League Baseball history in the process.

In a 15–3 rout of the Houston Astros, Kurtz went 6-for-6 with four home runs, becoming the first rookie in MLB history to hit four long balls in a single game. He also tied the all-time single-game record with 19 total bases, matching Shawn Green’s legendary mark set in 2002, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

The 22-year-old slugger had already collected a double and a single by the fourth inning. As the A’s built a commanding lead, Kurtz knew he’d get more chances at the plate.

“We had a good lead,” Kurtz told Chandler Rome of The Athletic. “So, I pretty much told [third-base coach Eric Martins] that, if I hit the gap, I’m going for three.”

But instead of hitting for the cycle, Kurtz couldn’t keep the ball in the yard. He homered in the sixth, again in the eighth, and once more in the ninth—putting an emphatic stamp on a night that instantly vaulted him into the record books.

Friday’s outburst lifted Kurtz’s season slash line to .305/.374/.686, with 43 extra-base hits across his first 66 big league games. Only Joe DiMaggio had more through the same span to start a major league career.

Standing 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, Kurtz has already shown more athleticism than expected, including two triples this year. But it’s his elite power that has made him one of the brightest young stars in the sport—and the face of the franchise in its first season since relocating to Daikin Park.
