Jeffery Simmons has slimmed down for the season—and he says it’s already paying off.
The Tennessee Titans defensive tackle revealed on Saturday that he’s dropped 20 pounds heading into the 2025 NFL season. Simmons credited his weight loss to a focused offseason diet and conditioning program built around lean protein and mobility.
“I mostly definitely see the quickness, and the more twitchiness,” Simmons told the media (via: NFL’s Kayla Anderson). “Especially the upper-body rotation. When you’re doing pass-rush, everything is about, here. And when all this is slim and lean, it’s a big difference.”

Simmons emphasized how cleaning up his diet—switching exclusively to chicken and fish—helped him slim down without sacrificing strength. He currently weighs about 301 pounds and has said he doesn’t want to exceed 305 at any point this season. In past years, his playing weight hovered closer to 315.
The Titans are counting on Simmons to lead a revamped defensive front in 2025. Last season, he posted just 5.0 sacks across 16 games—his lowest total since 2020. The former first-round pick is now entering his sixth NFL season and hopes the lighter frame translates into better burst and agility in pass-rush situations.
He’s not the only Titan arriving at camp in noticeably different shape. Rookie lineman JC Latham also shed 33 pounds as part of his transition from left to right tackle, a change the Titans hope will strengthen the offensive front. Veteran additions like Dan Moore Jr. and Kevin Zeitler are also expected to boost Tennessee’s trench play.
With Simmons leaner and more explosive, and a retooled supporting cast around him, the Titans are aiming to bounce back in 2025 with renewed physicality in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
